Tabata Workout: Train Like An Athlete
I always recommend people focus on functional training when it comes to exercise. Sure big muscles can look good, but what can you do with those muscles? Can you sprint? Can you jump? Can you even do a pull up or pushup?
Functional training is all about incorporating real life, everyday moves into your workout so you can do them with more power, strength, speed, etc.
This is how athletes train. It’s not all about the beach muscles, i.e. biceps.
That is what this 4 minute Train Like An Athlete Tabata Workout is all about. I throw plyometrics at you, foot speed and agility drills, and of course and overall cardio burn.
You may be saying, “but Brad, I’m not an athlete”… my response, “Do you have a body?” … well according to my friends at Nike…this means you’re an athlete! Love it!

Use this 4 minute Medicine Ball tabata workout as a “workout finisher” at the end of your strength training routine or immediately after you wake up in the morning. By incorporating more of these tabata workouts into your daily routine, you’ll be burning fat more efficiently throughout the day/night.

All you need to complete this Tabata Workout is…

Train Like An Athlete – 4 Minute Tabata Workout Video

Total time: 4 mins
Work time: 20 sec (as many reps as possible with good form)
Rest time: 10 sec
Exercise:
1. Side To Side Run x 20 sec (10 sec break)
2. Seal Jack Plyometric Pushups x 20 sec (10 sec break)
3. Mountain Climbers x 20 sec (10 sec break)
4. Running On The Spot x 20 sec (10 sec break)
2 rounds for a total of 8 sets.
Remember: ONLY REST FOR 10 SECONDS between sets!

Love that you said it’s about being functional! that is my biggest gripe with having met jackie warner, it’s about being lean, but you can’t do anything with it!
i’m right now trying to figure out the best schedule to balance marathon training with flexibility with building a better physique…might be too many goals at once…but I’m willing to try.
