In this Freestyle Friday edition of Live Lean TV, I provide you with a framework to healthy eating. It’s called my TQT principle to nutrition planning. It’s covered in full detail in my book, Awaken The Abs Within.

This simple and straight forward framework can be easily implemented into anyone’s lifestyle. Simply remember what each letter in “TQT” stands for and you’re ready to make better nutrition decisions.

Here’s how it works…

As discussed in a previous post, “easiest way to tell if a food is healthy“, I recommended you keep the majority of foods (TYPES) to ONE INGREDIENT foods. This simply means if you look at the nutrition label, it should only include one ingredient. This is called “real food”…the type of food your body was designed to digest and absorb. So for every protein, carbohydrate, and fat source you consume…try to focus it on a food that contains only one ingredient.

Quantity of Food 

In my book, Awaken The Abs Within, I give you a step-by-step calculation on how to figure out how many calories (from protein, carbs, and fat) your body requires to maintain your current physique, lose fat, or add more size. It’s all based on your current activity level, your current physique, and goals.

Then it’s easy. Simply select the healthy TYPES of foods listed in the book to make up the number of calories you require to reach your goal.

Timing of Food

It’s important to look at food as fuel. You need to fuel your body with carbs when your body requires energy. This simply means the majority of your carbohydrate intake should be centered around your workouts (when you require energy) and earlier in the day. For example, 90-120 mins before your workout, you eat a meal containing carbs. After your workout, you eat a meal containing carbs. For effective fat loss, the rest of your meals should be just comprised of protein, fat, and veggies.
